The spine, or spinal column, consists of 24 vertebrae and is divided into three sections: the cervical spine (neck), the thoracic spine (trunk) and the lumbar spine (lower back). Between each vertebra is a fibrocartilage disc that acts as a shock absorber. The vertebrae are connected to each other by facet joints. The spinal column also houses the spinal cord, from which all major nerves in the body originate. A problem with any aspect of the spine can cause problems elsewhere in the back and throughout the body.
Back pain—especially lower back pain—causes more disability worldwide than any other condition. It is one of the most common sources of chronic pain in the United States, with an estimated 8 out of 10 people reporting some back pain during their lifetime. It’s also one of the most costly, representing a large portion of the $14.2 billion in medical costs caused by work-related overexertion, according to a 2015 study published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

One of the Best!
I am 74 years old, and over my lifetime I have visited many doctors. I consider Dr. David Gold to be one of the best physicians I have utilized. I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Gold to evaluate mild, but ongoing pain in my lower back.
I selected Dr. Gold partly because he was highly rated by Healthgrades.com and equally important, a friend of mine with serious back issues has been seeing Dr. Gold for 20 years and spoke very highly of him.
Dr. Gold is very personal, and asked the right questions necessary for him to understand my condition. Then, he conducted a detailed physical examination of my back and legs. He then had my back x-rayed, and discussed the x-rays with me carefully showing and explaining the results. He prescribed a very mild muscle relaxant, recommended rest, and provided me with a printout of some easy exercises I could do at home to improve my back. Within a few days, improvement was noticeable.
His staff was friendly and helpful both on the phone and in the office.
In conclusion, I give Dr. Gold my highest rating.

Back to Riding and Enjoying Life
It was a lucky day when I found Dr. Oza. I was in serious pain from multiple back conditions. My quality of life was being seriously eroded. I was unable to do many things I enjoyed. Dr. Oza performed a number of procedures on my back, including ablation of facet joint nerves. He was cautious, caring and very professional. My overall experience at Summit Medical Group was way above my expectations. I am back to riding my bike and enjoying life again. I recommend Dr. Oza.
