Richard A. Rosa, MD, FACS, specializes in the treatment of knee, hip, and shoulder problems. His expertise includes minimally invasive surgery, patient-specific custom total knee replacement, partial (unicompartmental) knee replacement, total hip replacement, arthroscopic knee surgery (including meniscal surgery, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, and meniscal repair), and arthroscopic shoulder surgery (including arthroscopic rotator cuff repair). He also has extensive experience with the innovative subchondroplasty joint preservation procedure.
An innovator in his field, Dr. Rosa has helped design and develop state-of-the-art knee implants, instruments, and surgical techniques, including a unicompartmental knee arthroplasty system. Dr. Rosa is the first orthopedic surgeon in New Jersey and among the first dozen orthopedic surgeons worldwide to implant a computer-generated 3D printed patient-specific knee replacement.
Dr. Rosa is Director of the Saint Barnabas Medical Center Joint Institute in Livingston, New Jersey. He completed his fellowship at the world-renowned Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Dr. Rosa served as Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery and attending physician at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey – New Jersey Medical School in Newark, now Rutgers Medical School. He is the former Team Physician for the Georgetown University Rugby Football Club.
Dr. Rosa says, “As a former college athlete, I am passionate about sports medicine. I have treated many elite college and high school athletes with the latest surgical and nonsurgical technologic advancements.” He adds, “My relationship with each of my patients matters most to me. Always aware of the special bond between me and my patients, I combine my clinical skills with a humanistic touch and caring approach to ease my patients’ anxieties and ensure they are as comfortable as possible throughout their treatment.”
Dr. Rosa is a fellow of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons (ABOS), the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS). He is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), the American Medical Association (AMA), the New Jersey Orthopaedic Society (NJOS), the Academy of Medicine of New Jersey (AAMNJ) and the American Academy of Neurological and Orthopaedic Surgeons (AANOS). He is the co-author of articles and abstracts that are published in prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Chest, Spine, and Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. A sought-after speaker, he has delivered local, regional, national, and international invited presentations in his field.
Dr. Rosa has been featured multiple times in Castle Connolly Top Doctors, Castle Connolly Best Doctors in America and Consumer’s Research America’s Top Orthopedists listings.
